The tree is native to the Eastern half of the USA.

The Oil is obtained by steam distillation of the twigs and leaves of the tree.

Antiseptic, antispasmodic, tonic, astringent, diuretic, expectorant, insecticide, sedative and fungicide.

Cedarwood is found in preparations to treat various skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis, eczema and oily skin. It should be diluted in a suitable carrier oil and used with care as it can be an irritant when used in too high a concentration. 

When burned or vaporised it's thought to have a positive impact on bronchitis, catarrh, congestion, coughs and sinusitis. It may also be of benefit mentally, especially for those suffering with nervous tension or stress related disorders. 

Cedarwood (Virginian) blends especially well with benzoin, bergamot, cinnamon, cypress, frankincense, jasmine, juniper, lavender, lemon, neroli, rose and rosemary.
