NAC is used as a detox supplement that supports the body’s natural processes for clearing out toxins, including alcohol and certain medicines. In clinical settings it is sometimes used to treat overdoses. 

Hangover Prevention
Our bodies process alcohol by converting it into acetaldehyde - which is toxic. We need plenty of NAC to produce enzymes (in particular ADH and ALDH) that clear out acetaldehyde. When we run out of NAC, the build-up of acetaldehyde causes hangovers - which is why a NAC supplement the night before and the morning after can work wonders!

How To Take

Take one capsule daily with food or as directed by your healthcare professional.

You can swallow the capsules whole with water, though it is gentler on the stomach if you twist the capsules open and stir them into a glass of water or juice. We strongly recommend you only take NAC after a meal, especially If you are prone to heartburn or if you find it makes you feel nauseous. 

If you dislike the natural eggy smell, you can leave your NAC capsules in the open air for about 30 minutes before you take them - the smell will disperse. 

Store NAC in an airtight container to protect it from moisture.

Warnings
Do not take NAC if you suffer from gastritis, acid reflux (GERD), or stomach ulcers, as it may irritate the stomach lining. 

NAC breaks down the bonds which make mucus sticky, turning it into a runny liquid. Since your protective stomach lining is made of mucus, it can start to break down this mucus if you take it on an empty stomach. You may feel this as heartburn, reflux or sudden and persistent nausea. If you do experience these symptoms, stop taking NAC and speak to your GP.
