In massage Celery Seed is used in the treatment of water retention in women, to ease the appearance of and prevent cellulite, in cases of a digestive nature such as constipation and as a general tonic or pick-me-up after illness. This is because it is believed that the oil helps to expel toxins from the body.
Many Aromatherapists regard Celery Seed oil as extremely beneficial to those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis both in terms of relieving the symptoms of the condition as well as improving the mental state of the patient. The same applies to gout and arthritis.
It can also be used in a hot compress to ease kidney pain, cystitis and urine retention.
When burned or vaporised it's used to alleviate stress, depression and anger and may encourage feelings of happiness or even euphoria.
