Currently there is a worldwide green revolution under way, which is reflected in the belief that herbal remedies are safer and less damaging to the human body than synthetic drugs. Furthermore, underlying this upsurge of interest in plants is the fact that the exploitation of plants for medicines has a long history, since at one time all drugs were obtained from natural sources. Today, over 25% of existing medicinal drugs are extracted from or have originated from plant material.
